Correspondence was received from Mr.
Andrew Wong, Project Manager, Dan’s Legacy requesting City support for a
proposed food recovery and warehouse project.
Dan’s Legacy is a non-profit
organization that provides counselling and life-skills intervention programs
to youth affected by mental health challenges resulting from childhood trauma
and abuse.
Mr. Wong requested the City’s
assistance with locating warehouse space, between 5,000 and 20,000 square
feet, at below market lease rates or no cost. In addition, Mr. Wong
requested two refrigerated trucks and two delivery trucks.
*Councillor Wang
arrived at 4:12 p.m.*
Staff advised that the non-profit
organization is requesting warehouse space to provide a food recovery program
combined with culinary and food warehouse training for at risk youth.
Staff noted this initiative is
aligned with City’s policies; however, currently all City- owned warehouse
inventory is leased.
Staff undertook to respond to Mr.
Wong.
