SFU StreetFest @ UniverCity 2021

REQUEST: $12,000

An application was received from the UniverCity Community Association for the SFU StreetFest @ UniverCity 2021 event to be held on 2021 September 1-3 at University High Street, Burnaby Mountain. This is an annual Festival (although cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic) created to further engage SFU students and staff, local businesses, SFU services, elementary school and residents. This free one-day festival highlights various activities with performances, vendors, food and activities.

REQUEST: (I) $10,000

An application was received from the United Way of the Lower Mainland requesting an in-kind grant (for labour cost) in support of the 2021 United Way Campaign in the amount of $10,000 to cover banner installation and removal expenses along the Kingsway corridor, between Boundary Road and Royal Oak Avenue. The banners would be installed from 2021 October 01 to December 31. Approximately 37,500 residents benefit from United Way programs.

REQUEST: (P) $13,110

An application was received from Stream of Dreams Murals Society requesting a program grant in support of the Métis Camps taking place from 2021 July 17 to 2021 December 31. This is an ecology-based program that runs during July and August in 8 half-day sessions for children ages 6-12, with one program in October and the last one in December. The program teaches Métis children about their culture and their roots through medicinal plant walks in Burnaby Lake, creating medicine bags, making dream catchers and traditional foods. About 30 families from Burnaby will participate in this year’s Métis Camp program and at least 5 Burnaby residents will be employed.

REQUEST: (I) Not specified

A first time application was received from Young Elite Vancouver requesting an in-kind grant (green fee waiver) in support of a golf tournament fundraiser for the Vancouver Hospital Foundation to be held in 2021 September (date to be determined) at Burnaby’s Riverway Golf Course. The organization plans to donate the majority of the profits from the event, as well as any corporate sponsorship money received. This event is being co-hosted by Vancouver International Volunteer Association, a Burnaby-based registered society.
