An ‘Open’ meeting of the Executive Committee of Council was held in the Council Committee Room, Main Floor,  City Hall, 4949 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC on Thursday, 2015 May 21 at 5:00 PM

Report from the Director Finance

Re: UBER Ride-Sharing Service Delegation

 

The Director Finance submitted a report providing staff recommendations resulting from a presentation to the Executive Committee by Uber Ride-Sharing Service.

The Director Finance recommended:

1. THAT Council advise Uber Ride-Sharing Service that their current business model does not comply with Burnaby Cab Regulations Bylaw 2009 and therefore their company would not be eligible for a business licence within the City of Burnaby.

2. THAT a copy of this report be forwarded to Mr. C. Schafer of Uber Public Policy Manager-Canada.

EPIC for the Music in the Park Series

 

 

An application request was received from Burnaby Community Services on behalf of EPIC for the Music in the Park Series to be held on 2015 June 28, July 26 and August 30 in Edmonds Park.  This is a partnership of the Edmonds People in Community Residences (EPIC) with Burnaby Community Services and will see three nights of free family friendly music providing opportunities for amateur and semi-professional musicians from a variety of cultures and backgrounds to showcase their talents for their community.

Ethiopian Community Festival

 

 

An application was received from the Ethiopian Community Association of BC for the Ethiopian Community Festival to be held on 2015 August 28 at Kensington Park.  This annual event includes an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, cultural dance, live entertainment, a market place, cultural displays, food vendors and sampling, and a children's activity tent.

THAT a grant in the amount of $2,500 (Neighbourhood Event) be awarded to the Ethiopian Community Association of BC for the Ethiopian Community Festival on 2015 August 28 at Kensington Park.

            The Committee requested to advise the Ethiopian Community Association of BC that     the City is in the process or reviewing the Festivals Burnaby Grant Program, its          guidelines and frequency of awards.  As per the Guidelines, the Festivals Burnaby            Grant Program is not intended to provide continuing support to organizations        indefinitely.  To give an opportunity to other organizations and applicants, the City may     not consider their application in future years.  As an organization, they are encouraged to develop a diverse funding/income base and seek self-sufficiency as evidence of a             sustainable activity.  The program is intended to encourage the development of event    capacity, organization efficiency and best practices.
