An ‘Open’ meeting of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission was held in the Council Chambers, Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way, Burnaby, B.C. on Wednesday, 2016 September 21 at 7:00 p.m.

to refer Item (I) of the Council Correspondence Package re: Request for Portable Toilet to the Burnaby Parks, Recreation & Culture Commission for consideration.

Community Commission Meeting Schedule - 2017

The Director Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services submitted a report to seek Commission approval for the for the 2017 Commission meeting schedule including the dates and locations for the Community Commission meetings.

 

It was recommended:

 

1.    THAT approval be given for the 2017 Commission meeting schedule including the dates and locations for the Community Commission meetings.

(ii)

Licence Agreement - Cliff Avenue United Football Club

 

A report was submitted seeking approval for a renewed Licence Agreement with Cliff Avenue United Football Club.  

It was recommended:

1.  THAT approval be given for staff to enter into a new licence agreement with the Cliff Avenue United Football Club to operate the clubhouse portion of the facility at the Kensington Fieldhouse with terms and conditions as outlined in this report.

2.  THAT Council be requested to concur.

3.  THAT a copy of this report be sent to Ms. Karen Hum, Facility Administrator for the Club.

NEW BUSINESS

 

 

The Commission received a request for the donation of four green fees to the Recreation Foundation of BC.

 

The Commission introduced the following motion:

“THAT four green fees for Riverway Golf Course or Burnaby Mountain Golf Course be donated to the Recreation Foundation of BC for their annual fundraiser.”

The Commission received a request for the donation of four green fees to the Burnaby Hospice Society for their annual fundraiser.

 

The Commission introduced the following motion:

Counsellor Kang enquired as to the feasibility of a washroom at George McLean Park and brought forward the following motion:

“THAT staff provide a report on the feasibility of washrooms in George McLean Park.”

 

CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

 

Commissioner Jang enjoyed the Blues and Roots Festival.  He enquired as to the pruning/trimming of trees on the right side of the stage to open up the lake view.   Chair Volkow advised that it was much improved from previous years.  Staff advised that they could review for future pruning.

Commissioner Larkin enquired as to the park on Deer Lake Festival Lawn and the history of the placement of the apparatus in the playground area.  Staff will provide the information.

 

Commissioner Alzner attended the Blues and Roots festival and it was a successful event.

 

Commissioner Alzner commended the Library Board as well as Parks, Recreation and Cultural staff for the 60th Birthday Bash that took place on September 10th with various events taking place.

 

Commissioner Alzner expressed appreciation for the Burnaby Rotarians’ fundraising towards the new Fraser Foreshore Park Fitness Circuit.

 

Commissioner Alzner attended the Willingdon Greenway open house for the public which was well attended and staff did a good job of providing information and questionnaires.

 

Commissioner Alzner attended the City/RCMP open house on September 17th.  Again a commendation to staff for a job well done.
