Re: Kariktan Festival
Speakers: Rey Calinisan & Ms.
Sarrah Mae Calinisan
|
Mr. Rey Calinisan appeared before the
Committee proposing Kariktan Festival in conjunction with the celebration of
Burnaby’s 125th anniversary next year.
Ms. Sarrah Mae Calinisan advised that Kariktan
Festival will be a family-oriented event, promoting community pride and unity
amongst diversified cultures through a showcase of different ethnic costumes,
traditions and talents, highlighting their background and ingenuity. This
will be accomplished through a colourful, fun-filled street parade and
costume display.
The speaker advised that the festival
is planned for 2017 August 27 at Swangard Stadium. The festival would start in
the morning with a street parade (lasting about an hour to an hour and half)
from the Metrotown parking lot using the south lane of Kingsway, and ending up
at the stadium. The celebrations will continue until approximately 6 p.m.
In conclusion, the delegation
requested the City’s assistance with endorsement, partnership, and a street
closure.
The Chair thanked the delegation for
their informative presentation, and encouraged them to submit their official
Festivals Burnaby grant application by the 2017 March 15 deadline.
