Community Pollinator Garden

An application was received from the Scandinavian Community Centre Society (SCCS) requesting a grant in support of planting their second pollinator garden. In 2019, in collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation and private donors, the SCCS built their first pollinator garden. Six Burnaby residents joined the project. The 2021 project will begin in the spring and function as a habitat for local butterflies and bees; as well as serve as a conservation project for the community. The project consists of a 30 foot x 12 foot garden to support a pollinator patch and educational signage to inform members about local pollinators, the plants that they rely on, and what the community can do to help sustain their populations. The garden will host members and guests from Burnaby. Burnaby residents will be encouraged participate in several weekly children’s and senior’s programs. As well, the SCCS expects even more residents to join the pollinator garden project, than in 2019.
