INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS & FRIENDSHIP CITIES COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday, 2017 January 31 An Open meeting of the International Relations & Friendship Cities Committee was held in the Clerk's Committee Room, City Hall, 4949 Canada Way, Burnaby, B.C. on Tuesday, 2017 January 31 at 6:30 p.m. 1. CALL TO ORDER PRESENT: STAFF: Councillor P. McDonell, Chair Councillor J. Wang, Vice Chair Councillor P. Calendino, Member Mr. Aaron Fourt, Community Engagement Manager Ms. Nikolina Vracar, Administrative Officer The Chair called the Open meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. 2. MINUTES A) Minutes of the Open meeting of the International Relations and Friendship Cities Committee held on 2016 November 24 MOVED BY COUNCILLOR calendino SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR wang THAT the minutes of the Open International Relations & Friendship Cities Committee meeting held on 2016 November 24 be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3. REPORTS MOVED BY COUNCILLOR calendino SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR wang THAT the reports be received. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY A) Report from Community Engagement Manager Re: 2017 International Relations Expenses A report was received from the Community Engagement Manager seeking expenditure authorization for general purpose international relation related expenses. The Community Engagement Manager recommended: 1. THAT the Committee authorize expenditures to an annual maximum of $20,000 for delegation related activities from the International Relations and Friendship Cities Committee 2017 budget. MOVED BY COUNCILLOR calendino SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR wang THAT the recommendation of the Community Engagement Manager be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY B) Report from Community Engagement Manager Re: 2017 City of Burnaby China Delegation A report was received from the Community Engagement Manager seeking funding approval for a Council delegation visit to China in 2017. The Community Engagement Manager recommended: 1. THAT City of Burnaby Council representatives outlined in this report be authorized to attend the delegation visit to Burnaby's Sister and Friendship Cities in China from March 7-18, 2017, and that all associated expenses be approved for payment in accordance with City Policy from the International Relations and Friendship Cities Committee 2017 operating budget. MOVED BY COUNCILLOR calendino SECONDED BY COUNCILLOR wang THAT the recommendation of the Community Engagement Manager be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4. NEW BUSINESS Councillor Wang Councillor Wang inquired regarding the gift of the Dr. Sun-Yat Sen statue to the City of Burnaby by the City of Zhongshan. Councillor Wang recommended that the City of Burnaby delegation to China visit Foshan, Guangdong, noting that Ballard Power Systems in Burnaby has an established relationship with the City of Foshan and Foshan companies. Staff undertook to investigate. 5. INQUIRIES There were no inquires brought before the Committee at this time. 6.
