Correspondence was received from Ms.
Valerie Lambert, Executive Director, Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver
Foundation, expressing appreciation to the City for funding in support of the
In-School Mentoring and Teen Mentoring Programs in Burnaby.

Correspondence was received from
Burnaby Girls Soccer Club “U 17 Impact Team” expressing appreciation to the
City for funding in support of travel expenses for 16 players to attend the
Provincial ‘B’ Cup Tournament in Penticton.

Correspondence was received from Mrs.
Lorraine Seath, President of Cameron Seniors’ Society, requesting
consideration to increase the seniors’ Christmas luncheon/dinners grants.

Correspondence was received from Ms.
Megan Klitch, Tobacco Lead, and Ms. Jenny Byford, Advocacy Lead, Canadian
Cancer Society, seeking the City’s endorsement of the Society’s
recommendation that the BC Government expand the scope of BC’s Tobacco and
Vapour Products Control Act to prohibit use in outdoor public places
(i.e. patios, parks, playgrounds and beaches) province-wide.

THAT staff report back on what other
Lower Mainland municipalities are doing with respect to use of vapourizers,
and their response to the changes proposed by the Canadian Cancer Society to
the Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act, as well as the impact
that these changes would have on the City of Burnaby.

the Administrative Officer in response to the Committee’s request for
information on other municipalities’ practices regarding one-time grant
requests that may be of an emergency nature and have local, provincial or
national consequences (i.e. request for support of Fort McMurray due to the
extreme fire losses).

An application was received from
Burnaby Community Services requesting a grant in support of Burnaby Beer Fest
2016 to be held on 2016 November 12 at Spacekraft (201 - 4501 Kingsway),
Burnaby. This is a fundraising event for the various outreach programs and
services. The 2nd Annual Beer Fest will be hosting three Tasting Sessions,
featuring more than 30 delicious beers, tasty appetizers and live
entertainment.

Climate Change Showdown

BC Sustainable Energy Association requesting a grant to assist with the cost
of Climate Change Showdown educational program for elementary schools in
Burnaby. The program is geared towards students in grades 4 through 7, and
help to increase awareness of local sustainability initiatives amongst
youth. It also includes a four-week contest where students and their
families are challenged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and embrace
healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

45th Annual Deer Lake Craft Festival
|
|
An application was received from the
Burnaby Arts Council requesting an in-kind grant for printing of promotional
materials and signage for the 45th Annual Deer Lake Craft Festival to be held
on 2016 November 18 - 20. The festival is a 3 day artisan market and
community event where visitors and shoppers alike enjoy beautiful art, live
music and entertainment, kids’ hands-on workshop and face painting. All
proceeds from the event will go towards providing community support,
resources and programming services to a diverse membership of individuals and
arts groups, as well as improving and promoting the arts in the City of
Burnaby.

funding member agencies, and as a result, Volunteer Burnaby has lost
one-quarter of core funding.
