Operating Grant

An application was received from Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver requesting an operating grant to cover the costs for staff and rent for the Mentoring with Math (in-person) program to be held at the North Burnaby Neighbourhood House. The grant will be divided between staff salary ($9,400) and occupancy ($600) to run 3 sessions of the Mentoring with Math program. The funding will go towards recruiting, screening, and training volunteer mentors. Caseworkers will be hired to ensure that every volunteer mentor has proper training to create a healthy mentoring relationship with their Little Buddies. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, on 2020 May 12 Mentoring with Math was adapted to a virtual format delivered as an e-mentoring program via Zoom. Since it received many positive responses, this virtual program will continue to run. As of 2020 November, in-person mentoring will also be provided with all safety and health protocols in place and in accordance to Centre for Disease Control guidelines.

Operating Grant

An application was received from The Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby requesting an operating grant to support the staffing of an Executive Director. Until recently the organization had a contractor as a part-time coordinator, but due to the increasing demand of accomplishing goals for the Society, this position was converted to a staff (Executive Director) position. This position is critical to achieving the goals of the Society, including: moving towards providing services for the poor and under housed; advocating for the causes of the Society; creating awareness in the community around these issues and pulling together the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness.
