An Open meeting of the City Council
was held in the Directors’ Office, Metro Vancouver, 4330 Kingsway, Burnaby,
B.C. on Monday, 2016 September 12 at 6:30 p.m. followed immediately by a
Closed meeting from which the public was excluded. At the conclusion of the
Closed meeting, the Open meeting was reconvened at 7:00 p.m. in the Metro
Vancouver Boardroom.

The Public Safety
Committee submitted a report seeking Council authorization for Committee
members to attend the BC Crime Prevention Association 2016 Annual Training
Symposium in Richmond.

Council authorize up to three (3) Public Safety Committee members to attend the
BC Crime Prevention Association 2016 Annual Training Symposium at an
approximate cost of $1,000.

submitted a report from the Director Engineering seeking Council approval for
a road closure to facilitate St. Helen's Terry Fox Run to be held on Friday, September
16.

discussed in this report.

the coordinator of the event, Mr. Enrico Perrotta, Athletic Director, St.

mural grant for $3,500.00 for a mural at 5858 Clinton Street be approved as
part of the Burnaby Grant Mural Program.

a copy of this report be forwarded to Todd Polich, artist of the mural, at 4272

to appropriate $7,000,000 for land assembly and development.

The City Manager
submitted a report from the Director Finance seeking Council approval to
increase the existing contract and a one year contract extension for the
processing and marketing of residential green waste compostable materials.
The City Manager
recommended:

1. THAT Council approve an increase to
the current contract by $427,450 including GST in the amount of $20,350 with
Enviro-Smart Organics Ltd., for a total revised contract value limit of $2,506,500
including GST.
2. THAT Council approve a one year
contract extension with Enviro-Smart Organics Ltd., for a total estimated cost
of $1,408,500 including GST in the amount of $67,070. Final payment will be
based on the actual quantities of residential green waste compostable materials
transported, processed and marketed for the one year period.

Mid-Autumn Moon Festival
2016 – Councillor Wang
Councillor Wang encouraged residents
to participate in and attend the variety of Mid-Autumn Moon Festival events
taking place in Burnaby and Vancouver on Thursday September 15th and
throughout the weekend. The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is the second largest
Chinese festival of the year and is a time for family and friends to celebrate
the harvesting of the crops and the delicious food they provide.

expenses be approved for payment in accordance with City Policy.

City Hall and RCMP Open Houses –
Councillor Kang
Councillor Kang encouraged
Council and Burnaby residents to participate in and attend the City Hall and
RCMP Open House events, at 11:00 a.m. on September 17th at Burnaby
City Hall and the neighbouring RCMP Detachment, as well as the Paver Dedication
Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. Bring the family and learn about the City and RCMP
operations, participate in a scavenger hunt and meet the RCMP bomb squad. The
event is sure to be fun and interesting for any and all that attend.
2016 Parkinson SuperWalk – Mayor
Corrigan
Mayor Corrigan attended the
Parkinson SuperWalk on 2016 September 12 around the track at Confederation
Park. Funds raised by the SuperWalk support research and programs for people
with Parkinson’s disease, a debilitating neurological disorder for which there
is no cure. Mayor Corrigan extended a special thanks to volunteer Linda Dawson
and her team for all of their hard work, and congratulated them on a successful
event.

Mayor Corrigan extended his
heartfelt thanks to Metro Vancouver for hosting the City of Burnaby Council
meetings in the Metro Vancouver Boardroom on August 29th and
September 12th while the City of Burnaby Council Chambers was under renovation.
Special thanks to all the Metro Vancouver staff that so graciously accommodated
the City’s requirements.
